Dr. Bob Returning June 17th!
As many of you know, Dr. Bob Townsend has been away for a few months resolving an issue with the state. We are pleased to announce that he will be returning to full time practice on June 17th and will be personally seeing patients again. We want to thank Dr. Pastor Aperocho for helping us in this difficult time, it was due to his offer to come in that we were able to continue caring for our patients.
Unfortunately, the state insisted we stop caring for the patients that needed us the most, our pain management and addiction patients. To have fought this would have further delayed Dr. Townsend’s return and due to the way the case was investigated, prosecuted and adjudicated, we felt it would not have changed the outcome in any way. While this was arguably entrapment, and Dr. Townsend firmly maintains his care was not only appropriate, but conservative and effective, he had to agree to this unfair and draconian decision. We feel it hurt patients and was a major setback to the care of patients in chronic pain and suffering from addictions. Thank you all for your support. We were not allowed to present the more than 270 letters attesting to the impact on their lives we received from our patients.
Clicking on ‘Our Schedule’ and scrolling to the bottom of the page will take you to our schedule. Due to the state’s actions, we have had to close several of the clinics as we were not able to man them. Closed clinics include Ironwood, Lansing, and Saginaw. Those clinics will be handled by Marquette and Mt. Pleasant. We are still seeing patients in Traverse City and Grand Rapids (Dr. Townsend will personally take over those clinics to build them back). Our Clinics in Kalamazoo, Mt. Pleasant, Gaylord, Cadillac, and Marquette have been going strong and we are looking to move Kalamazoo and Cadillac to once a week.
We will restart some of our outreach clinics and are looking to add a new brick and mortar office in NE Michigan soon. Our goal is to return to 10 weekly clinics throughout our regular service area. We are also adding physicians, as Dr. Townsend is running for the Michigan House of Representatives 97th District (and getting strong support) to help bring some leadership to Lansing in Healthcare, Criminal Justice Reform, Small Business Economy and Education.
Personal Note from Dr. Bob Townsend:
I am very sorry for the hardship my absence has caused my patients. As many of you have seen, I’ve been at most of the clinics assisting but could not see patients. They tried to cripple access to medical marijuana certifications in N. Michigan, but did not succeed. Unfortunately they did severely decrease access to pain management and addiction services. I tried, but was unable to prevent that. We will return as soon as possible to provide this much needed service.
In the meantime, I’ve decided that trying to explain the needs of pain management and addiction patients to those making decisions in Lansing is much harder than just going there as a Representative for the 97th District and making the decisions myself. I’d also like to work on criminal justice reform (the cost of prosecution for simple possession in my district is over $1,000,000 per year). For those of you that live in the 97th, I’d appreciate your support. For those that don’t, I’d still like your support. I’ll make your voices heard.
