Holistic Pain Management
Our pain management is based on a goal oriented approach that concentrates on results. We want to ease your suffering and improve your quality of life without making you choose between two therapies that are working. Our Holistic approach addresses the person, not the symptom of pain alone.
Suboxone therapy is designed to help those who wish to end their narcotics dependency while minimizing the symptoms of withdrawal. We have had great results in Michigan, and this is a proven method of addiction therapy. We do accept alternative medicine choices.
A Michigan medical marijuana card can ensure you receive the relief you need, and we provide the type of professional marijuana certifications that protect our qualifying patients’ Section 8 rights to this medication.
Acupuncture relieves pain, strengthens the body’s natural defenses and promotes overall well-being. It involves the safe insertion of very fine needles into the body to restore the body to natural health and balance. It is part of our holistic approach to healthcare.
We offer clinical therapy for children, adolescents, adults, marriage, couples, families, and groups. The psychology of pain and suffering must be addressed as part of the holistic approach to care that characterizes the Denali Way.
Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress-related. Massage therapy is an effective tool for managing this stress, along with a number of additional benefits for health issues and pain relief in Michigan.
Our Rational Pain Management Approach…
The Denali Way of Rational Pain Management is to combine baseline pain control with scheduled medication and a flexible response to the peaks of breakthrough pain with ‘as needed’ medication. The lowest effective dose of medication is used for each segment of the strategy. As part of our Holistic approach, we offer alternative medicine, counseling and in some locations acupuncture and massage therapy.
A scheduled medication is one that is prescribed to be taken a certain number of times a day. This means if you take the medication 3 times a day, you get a supply of 90 for the month. We use scheduled medications as a long acting narcotic combined with a Motrin like medication to make the narcotic work better. This is taken on a schedule, every day, to provide a baseline pain control. This baseline pain control is key to overall improvement in your quality of life- it is the cornerstone of ‘rational pain management’.
Ideally, this will reduce a patient’s average pain by about 50% and will be adjusted until a 50% reduction is achieved.
An ‘as needed’ medication is generally a short acting narcotic that is used when a flare of pain occurs. We generally give these pain medications with the direction to take ‘every 6 hours as needed.’ This patient directed self medication in response to acute on chronic pain is the flexibility a patient needs to go with the baseline pain control of the scheduled medications. Together they form the concept of rational pain management.
That means that if needed, you take one. You may need to take a second dose 6 hours later, but it does not mean you take 4 tabs a day, every day.
When giving an ‘as needed’ medication you can take every 6 hours, we generally give 30 or 60 to last the month. If that isn’t enough, you don’t have enough baseline pain control with your scheduled medicines, and we will increase those at your next visit rather than give early refills of your short acting ‘as needed’ medications.
The Medical Marijuana Program
At Denali Healthcare, PLLC, we provide professional, defensible medical marijuana certifications for patients that qualify under the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act.
We were, in fact, among the experts consulted by the Michigan Legislature to help define what a bonafide doctor/patient relationship was as that act was being written. We require medical records, meet with patients and provide free follow up, and always have, even before it was required. Every time the matter has been questioned in court, our relationship with our patients was determined to meet the standards, and we have never had a certification overturned.
In addition to the certification, we provide information on caregiver/patient matching through grassmatch and patient forums, links to compassion clubs and other useful internet sites, and on-line and in person follow ups.
The Suboxone Program
Suboxone therapy is designed to help those currently on narcotics, both prescription and ‘non-prescription’, who wish to end their dependency on them while minimizing the symptoms of withdrawal. We have had great results, and this is a proven method of addiction therapy.
We do not keep people on long term suboxone therapy. You are on suboxone to get off all narcotics, including suboxone. With Locations across Michigan, Denali Healthcare is here to help end your dependency on narcotics.
We are only interested in working with those serious about getting off narcotics and willing to fully comply with the rules of the program (we have a very limited number of slots by law).
We Can Help Find a Counselor
Suboxone patients need to arrange substance abuse counseling prior to their first visit with our nurse. You MUST be in counseling to participate in the program by law.
